Description
At MAX IV, multimodal experiments are becoming increasingly important across beamlines, driven by the need to combine complementary techniques and maximize data and information acquisition during increasingly complex in situ and operando experiments. However, orchestrating multiple acquisition systems with different synchronization and data requirements remains a significant challenge for experiment control frameworks.
This contribution presents ongoing efforts at MAX IV towards more flexible multimodal experiment orchestration using Sardana. We will share motivations from current beamline use cases, with a focus on synchronization and data acquisition challenges, and present preliminary tests combining recent Sardana developments such as MultiSynchDescription together with Blissdata and Redis-based streaming. While still exploratory, these tests aim to evaluate possible approaches for synchronizing detectors acquiring in different frequencies and improving data handling workflows for multimodal experiments.
This contribution aims to open discussion around common challenges and future directions for multimodal experiment support within the Sardana ecosystem.
